Restore a Missing Tooth with a Single Implant

Single Tooth Implant Every tooth plays a role in allowing proper chewing and speaking, as well as maintaining the jaw structure. Losing even just one tooth can affect the health of the whole mouth. Drs. Clark Damon and Kari Blankenship can conveniently provide the placement and restoration of a single tooth implant all under one roof at our Dallas, Amarillo, or Fort Worth, TX, office. At Texas Dental Center, we focus on educating patients on the importance of replacing failing or missing teeth because an incomplete smile does far more damage than just affecting your appearance.

Our office focuses on providing immediate crowns on immediate implants when possible. The time to teeth can be a matter of hours.

Same Day Dental Implant Placement with Same Day Temporaries are possible with our office protocols. It is the 21st century, so have a 21st century doctor, and dental implant.

By using Nobel Biocare’s Nobel Active Implant – an implant with a very aggressive thread design, often times we are able to extract a failing tooth, place an implant, and place a temporary crown on it that day. Dental speak – we call this – Immediate Dental Implant Placement with Immediate Provisionalization. This limits time off work, provides the fastest time to teeth, and makes your life easier. SO why wait, it has never been easier to get dental implants.

Dr. Damon can replace a single missing tooth with a dental implant and custom crown to restore aesthetics, health, and functionality to your smile.

A missing tooth can also affect your ability to chew and speak properly. You may over-compensate when eating, which can lead to a misaligned bite over time. The jawbone and gum tissues both shrink considerably after tooth loss. This can eventually lead to the loss of surrounding teeth.

Fortunately, there is a solution. Dr. Damon can replace a single missing tooth with a dental implant and custom crown to restore aesthetics, health, and functionality to your smile. Dental implants are titanium screw-like posts that replace the entire root structure of your tooth. A dental crown is attached to the end of the implant, creating a beautiful and functional smile that can last for years with proper care.

Consequences of Losing a Single Tooth

The loss of even just one tooth can be detrimental to your oral health. Not only does it leave a gap in your smile, but it can affect your appearance in other ways. In just one year after losing a tooth, nearly 25 percent of the bone that supported that tooth is lost. This can require larger bone grafting surgeries needed, and increase the cost of the dental implant procedure.

The Implant Procedure

Prior to the procedure, Drs. Damon and Blankenship will use our digital 3-D cone beam scanner to plan your surgery. Single tooth implant procedures are generally simpler than the placement of multiple dental implants. We offer patients an option to have a temporary placed on the implant the day of surgery under our Teeth in a Day Protocol developed by Nobel Biocare. This way patients can walk in and out with a permanent implant fixed single tooth. However, in some cases this is not possible; in scenarios such as these please discuss with your Doctor to find out what your next step is. Usually what is given is a temporary implant, in which you will return at 4-6 months for your final all porcelain crown.

Why wait 4-6 months? This allows enough time for bone and the gums to heal as well as have the implant fuse to the bone in a process called Osseo integration.

Advantages of Single Tooth Implants over Dental Bridges

Traditional dental bridges are held in place by drilling and making crowns on adjacent (most of the time healthy) teeth. This is not only damaging to the teeth that must support the crowns, but also does not stop bone loss. I tell my patients, why make a one tooth problem a three tooth problem? Also did you know 50% of all crown and bridges done in America DO NOT last 10 years????  Dental implants are the more conservative route to go and often the same cost as a traditional 3 unit bridge.
